Possible airflow problem?

Ive just fitted a tuniq tower onto an E6600 and am getting temps of 42 give or take a degree or two when idle.

If I take the case side off, that drops to 30 - 34

Does this prove that the cooler is seated correctly, and that I could just do with more fans/improving the airflow?

That suggests your case airflow is rubbish.
It doesn't really tell you anything about the cooler, other than that its doing its job and dumping heat into the case.
