Possible AMD takeover

It's been on the rumour-mill for some time now.

I'm not sure if IBM can be bothered with the hassel of taking on Intel.
 
Time will tell. From recent articles about this topic there are numerous companies that are interested. Maybe they are waiting for things to get worst and buy the company at a lower price. It would be nice if AMD managed to pull this off without a company buying them but AMD needs the cash. I think Samsung would make a good canditate since it could use the technology on many levels and they have the money for it.
 
Samsung would be a good plan, be nice to have all their own memory and CPU/GPU's...
 
Basically AMD and Cyrix made low cost clones of intel tech and there was no real competition between the three from a technology point of view. This caused prices to be set artificially high by Intel as they were in effect in a monopoly position. Ever heard of "Wintel"? It was the term often given to the Intel/MS Windows monopoly position back in the 90's.

AMD made its first really competitive chip when the original Athlon came out. In my opinion that's the first time that Intel ever took them seriously, and thats when the pace of development from the two really changed (all in my opinion of course)

I had one! :D

Wintel is STILL a term synonymous with the server and infrastructure market to this day, I even have the term on my CV. So much for heterogeneous environments, eh. ;)
 
Whoever takes over AMD will be taking on the debt that was left with the acquisition of ATI... and with AMD's current poor performace I somehow doubt it's worth it.
 
When a potential suitor looks at a company, they do a "due diligence" exercise that will reveal (amongst many other things) some of what is in the pipeline for the company's future. If this looks good it means that AMD may be an attractive proposition for a company with which it has synergies

/takes off business hat ;)
 
They might be running at a loss, but they aren't losing money are they? That said at the current rate it'll take quite some time to recoup! :)
