I was watching Lost last night through my amp and speakers and then an awful sound came from the right front speaker.

It was the sound a radio makes when it is not tuned to a station. I tried everything and i couldnt get rid of it, its definatly not the connections cause i checked them all. You can still slightly here the film or whatever you are watching but the sound is awful.

I know it is the amp because i tried another speaker and the same thing happens. But here is the strange thing. When i turn the amp to a non digital source like cd it works fine???

My sky+ and dvd are the only things affected and they are both hooked up via optical?

Could it be a problem with these connections?

Can bring it back as its out of warranty details below

Marantz sr5200
6.1
Eltax front Left and right floorstanders (Bi-wired)
Eltax centre
Eltax Bi-polar surrounds

Any ideas

Its broken

Could be the DAC could be the optical input, try another optical port if you haven't already.

As to can you take it back. Probably but I'd make sure you know how much a repair is going to cost before you commit if its out of warranty.

I phoned up a qualified Marantz service centre (luckily 5 mins away - only 1 in Northern Ireland) they said they could have a look at it but if it was less than £55 to fix they would go ahead and do it if it was more than that they would give me a phone.

You don't actually need a receipt:

DTI Fact Sheet said:
Q7. Do I have to produce a receipt to claim my rights?

No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient.

Hi, thats the exact same problem Ive got with my SR5200 amp. Only affects digital inputs, or anything where the amps DAC is being used, grr. The annoying thing is though that the fault is only intermittent, and when I took it to be repaired, they couldnt find anything wrong with it. So I brought it home, and it worked fine for around a week or so, then the same thing again. Let me know if you find out exactly what is wrong with it, so I know what to tell the repairers exactly what the problem is. Thanks.

Mine was intermittant when it started a couple of months ago, but now it hardly works at all.
I talked to a repairman at the time about it being an intermittant fault and he said it could be internal power supply related.

Just got my amp back there now all fixed and working great.

I know some of you wanted to know what the problem was so here it is:

The engineer replacedthe integrated circuit to D.S.P board

Parts fitted: HC107250R

it only cost £39.03 to fix but with VAT it was £45.86 a great deal if you ask me, hope this helps you guys get yours fixed
