cpu i9 12900
ram 32 gb ddr5
gpu gforce rtx 4090
mobo asus maximus z960 extreme

this all started when i tried to do a windows 11 update that failed, there was also around 5 other updates that included a mix of smaller updates , one of them being an asus bios update possibly, so the pc downloaded them and installed them. i restarted the pc as asked and bang the pc was giving me the error code FD which could be a few things, i tried pressing the button that clears the cmos but no luck.
when i turned my monitor on i got this message:
"warning!!
bios recovery mode has been detected.
please put the file asus.cap in to hdd or a removeable usb media device, and then reset your computer"

i then put the bios update on to a usb stick and pressed the bios button on the back of my pc/motherboard and nothing happened, i got a black screen and the motherboard bios button stayed a solid blue after it flashed indicating the bios update failed, the motherboard readout gave 2 different issues one attempt it said test nvram and the second was cpu.

does anyone have an idea what the issue is and how to fix it?

So first up, never let Windows update perform a BIOS update ever! Secondly I’m sorry to say, this has likely b0rked the motherboard beyond software recovery.

It seems the board wants the file on disc and specifically a HDD for some reason, but I think a SATA ROM drive would work too. The board probably can’t assign more than a few IRQ designations at this point, so likely can’t initialise usb drives.

You did mean Z690 motherboard?

If so, this picture taken from the online manual shows the dedicated bios port, it also recommends using a USB2 flash drive for better compatibility and stability.

EDIT

When you do get you PC up and running again, stop Windows updating drivers and bios.

https://www.easeus.com/computer-instruction/windows-11-automatically-update-bios.html

Then you missed page 2-25 which specifies that the exact port you must use.as you can see from the image i posted there is no dedicated port listed. i got the pc working again as i spotted in the manual that i have 2 bios i can switch between so im now on my secondary one and it works fine. ive also switch off the windows update in hopes it wont happen again.

Scroll to page 73 for bios flashback.

Glad you have got it working again though and now you have disabled Windows driver update hopefully you will never have this problem again.
