i could do with some information here. basically there is a chance my mum/dads credit card details could be seen by someone who we don't want them to see. its by no means definite but there is no chance we can take the risk that someone may have the number, the dates and the security number.

but, just today, they have got there new cards delivered. whilst the main number hasn't changed, everything else has. the person who could have them doesn't know my parents names, and now the security no and dates.

despite this we don't want to chance them getting the number, so what are are options? can we ring the card provider and ask for new cards, or new numbers in fact?

You're being very vauge. How did this person see the card? And without the dates or security code, it's pointless getting a new card.

Did you cancel the card to get a replacement?

Do they know the pin number? Or for online purchases do they know the online password? Can they reset the online password with information they know?

Is it someone you know that may have the details? Act quickly if this is the case, since fraud protection doesnt cover misuse by friends and family.

edit: if its a new security code, then you are pretty safe.

this is the story. i live away from home, and whilst away my brother bought some tickets using the said card. however he bought them on his phone. a few months down the line the said phone broke, and he sold it as faulty. and in doing so leaving his details on, but he thinks the details were on the sim(he isn't sure mind, but i think he got them saved in a message)

only now has he remembered he used the details, and *thinks* the details could still be on there. but only the above details, he didn't have the name on there(thankfully)

but he has only just sold the phone, so were just pondering whether we should take a precaution, despite the new cards coming.

As other have said you should be okay,

Just a question though
Why do people store card pins or such on mobiles? amount of females i see doing it is quite shocking what if your handbag got stolen with your mobile inside it?

Thats like saying to the bank yep someone stole my bag with my cards inside and oh i left a note with all my pin numbers wrote down with it

You'd be surprised how many people actually admit to it! I worked in a lost and stolen cards department for 3 years and one of my scripted questions was "is the PIN with the card?". It was really common for people to say something like "well it's written on a bit of paper in my purse" :(.

There's a much better way if you can't remember a PIN. Use a selection of numbers written on the card. There's so many combinations and you don't need to remember the actual numbers.
