Possible DC2 Purchase in 2-3 months..

Your considering an FTO against a Teg

Get out of here!!

FTOs are boring and slow

I wasn't considering or comparing, just looking around at other options, to see what kind if feedback they get, was all :p

I know the 'teg is basically the best FWD coupe there is, but I was just looking to gather some feedback on the FTO, was all :)

A manual FTO GPX is not noticeably slower in a straight line than a Teg. The FTO is actually a great car with an undeservedly crap image, probably not helped by the fact most of the ones in this country are crappy GR's or Tiptronics.

The FTO handles very well indeed - it is one of the best handling FWD cars around but was always seen as 'second best' to the Teg becuase lets face it, nothing handles like a Teg. But it's not far off. It's less raw than a Teg but to be honest it still isn't very refined and can be noisy and annoying. It's got some toys (Climate Control) and a horrid cheap interior.

But its quick and sounds good, and handles well and looks better than a Teg.

I think you will find the teg is noticeably faster.

From 0 - 100mph the teg is over a second faster and around a track it would easily beat an fto

Please do not even mention an fto in the same breath as a DC2 teg

0 - 60 on an FTO GPX (Manual) is 7.2 seconds

Teg is 6.2 seconds

Im sure your pretty good at maths so you should know thats a 1 second difference mr fox

It actually isn't. Thats the time for a Tiptronic FTO which some people mistakenly refer to as a Manual becuase of the Tiptronic function. The manual FTO is either 6.3 or 6.7 seconds depending on where you look.

Unless you honestly reckon that 166bhp/tonne and the ability to hit 60 in 2nd would give a 0-60 of over 7 seconds, I think its fair to accept that your figure is inaccurate :)

FTO GPX 2.0 V6 MIVEC isn't a bad call, superb engines IME, and they look superb, especially in white. The oil filter location is 100x better than the Teg's too if you're a DIY'er:p (changed the oil on a Colt with FTO engine last week).

Why not? They are tow cars in the exact same category, competitors of you prefer.

Exactly, I dont understand. Look at all the JDM YO PRESS MATERIAL INNIT from around the time they were contemporary and you'll see them compared. Ok, the Teg always emerges victorious as the drivers choice but I think you are being unfair to the FTO here. Have you driven one?

It isn't 7.2 either, and you'll note I explained it depends on who you believe and what model you refer to. Somewhere between 6.3 and 6.8 is probably right. And half a second is simply not enough of an advantage to leave something behind or make something appear slow.

And of course, 6 cylinders > 4 ;)

No. No it doesn't. Not a JDM 'teg anyway ;)

FTOs are pretty decent cars though, tidy handling and that V6 sounds supurb with the right exhaust. Insurance is a lot for what they are, but as a car they aren't bad.

But they aint no 'teg ;)

Sorry Drex, but this:

Is a pretty car. A Teg looks.. functional.

Drexel your teg looks superb. It's the sort of car id stand by and tell people it's mine ;):D

I'm sorely tempted to get a dc 2 ina few years just before my no claims expires, but a JDM like yours really has swayed me.

O and OP, just get one :p

The One, look, thanks for the input and your opinion, but i'm just after people's thoughts and advice, not someone trying to out argue fox, cause that person never bloody wins! :D

The thing is, any 0-60 under 7.0 is fine, i'm after a fun, fwd Coupe, thats not too bad on petrol, not a bomb to insure (I know FTO's are more, but cost less it seems so evens out) and just looking to get opinions on both without this turning into a brand war :)

My current car is 10.4 to 60, so either will be much faster, from the thoughts of most here I won't really go wrong with either, it seems, Fox, how much space is there in the back of the FTO?

As for the track usage in the OP, its just for the occasioanly OcUK and sometimes other track days, nothing stripped out and tuned to hell, just to have some fun every now and again, the difference of 0.5 seconds 0-60 doesn't really matter when we're talking the figures we are, the more refined (albeit not much :p) of the FTO does appeal, but both have plusses it seems.

Thanks in advance and again! :D

-The Unsure one.
