Possible decision made this weekend on F1 testing future

YEAH MASSIVE CONSPIROOCIES LOLOLOL ...or the monetary benefit to hosting it there compared to elsewhere is deemed to be worth the trade off against any advantage Ferrari might have. Or any other of a multitude of reasons the teams may have signed on the dotted line, rarely is Formula 1 as simple as one deal like this happening in complete isolation to the rest of the goings on.

I'm just astounded that anyone could think having years upon years of experience of a particular track would be of absolutely no advantage at all.

Given that its just testing and not a race............ what advantage would they gain?

I meant what advantage do ferrari gain, in what way is all their old data relevant?

This.

Other than knowing what way the track goes, what advantage does their old data have?

Ferrari have not tested a 2009+ spec car properly at that track, and have never been there with Pirelli tyres.

If old data is relevant, why does anyone bother to turn up to Barcelona or Valencia every year? :p

Maybe it actually puts Ferrari at a disadvantage, since they don't get to learn as many new things about their car around a track they must know like the back of their hands?

No? Anyone?

It gives them more reference material for how varying performance at that track has historically affected performance at other tracks. Just one random idea that could be useful. I already mentioned relative weather differences before.

Basic things like that.

Note that i've never said this is going to be ridiculously unfair in their favour and allow them to build a car 7 times faster than anyone else and LOLOLOL CONSPIRACY, I just don't for a moment think that years of experience on a track that no one else has counts for absolutely nothing at all whatsoever as people are suggesting.

They have a deeper understanding of that track than others do and I can't honestly think for a moment this presents them with absolutely zero advantage.

If you could test on a track that you had a decade of previous data for and on a totally random track you've never used before, which would you prefer to test on in order to best develop your car?

I'd take the track I knew, every day of the week and I cannot believe anyone else would do otherwise (unless of course the other track provided something specific you needed, such as an extra long straight). Of course in an ideal world you'd do both but that's seemingly not possible at the moment.

Surely all that general info is available from simulators? The track is a good one for testing aerodynamics in a real world environment and as the primary design for aero is all done in simulators/scale models everyone will have the same starting position?

Also the fact it was voted for by the teams would indicate they dont feel its giving an advantage to Ferrari.

The fact they voted for it indicates nothing more than they don't feel it presents Ferrari an advantage that isn't counterbalanced by other advantages (likely financial) to testing there.

Not that it presents absolutely zero advantage at all.

Its clearly a negligible enough advantage for all 11 other teams, who are direct competitors to Ferrari, to feel its not an issue.

Thats all the evidence I need.

But the conspiracy theories and wild claims give me some lols, so carry on.

LOL CONSPIRACY LOL

You'll kindly note i've made no such claims of conspiracy, just refuted the notion that having years of experience of a particular track will be of absolutely zero benefit at all.

Lol - Everyone saying that Ferrari will get an advantage, is basically saying that they know more that all of the team bosses and technical staff that agreed to this in the first place.

Really? How arrogant are you

Hi, welcome to 3 days ago. That argument is over and done with.

Has anyone been to Bacalona for testing?

It is cheap as well - £50 return flight from my local airport (Bristol) and don't think accommodation is going to be that? Anyone know how much entry is? It went from free to £10 to £20 IIRC at Silverstone in the final years of testing there in June.
