Possible Faulty R290X

Have you got access to another GPU you can try in your system? A friend of mine, had problems ie flickering with his card at idle/2d clocks but fine when under load. Turned out to be a faulty card (7870). You would have to be very unlucky to have been dealt the same hand twice though. Good luck mate

i've had my sapphire trix 290 for about 9 days, i have the same problems and it seems to be memory related, it happened 3 times yesterday when sitting on desktop idle.. got multi coloured lines across my screen then it turns black have to hard reset to get back on to desktop.

My week old MSI 290 is doing a similar thing, desktop us fine but as soon as I start gaming it black screens & a hard reset is required.
This is after I had to return my MSI 280X for artifacts when gaming. Not impressed with MSI gpu 's at the moment!

its just happened again, thats it for me its being returned.

You managed to get an RMA number?
I'm trying to obtain one for my week old 290 & Overclockers seem rather reluctant to issue one.
Fobbing me off with try this & try that, reinstall windows, update drivers.
I wouldn't mind but I explained I'd already done all that & much more before asking to RMA.

Right folks, I've got an update to my saga.....

I RMA'd the card last week and after 'extensive testing' the card was deemed to be fault free so it was returned to me.

I removed the driver with DDU before installing the card then reinstalled the driver from the disk.

I started it scrypt mining and it run faultlessly for 24 hours (both my previous cards ran faultlessly until the first time they were shutdown - so with this in mind, I've just shut it down for the first time)

1st problem, the PC didn't shut down, it just went to a black screen and hung there. I killed it with the plug and restarted it again.

The PC booted up fine, I clicked on MSI Afterburner and the screen went black again straight away. Killed it with plug and started again.

Once more, it booted up fine. Started Cgminer and once again, black screen. Killed it with plug again.

Restarted the PC, booted up fine, tried cgminer again and this time it's working. If it didn't work this time, I was going to boot into safe mode and remove then reinstall the drivers from the disk again.

Has anybody any idea what is going on? Ideas what to do next?

Just been to check on the PC; it was happily mining away when I left it an hour ago.

The screen was off, as I expected. I moved the mouse to wake it and straight away the GPU fan spooled up to full speed at the screen stayed black.

Pulled the plug to restart it, tried cgminer and straight away, black screen.

Started it in safe mode, removed the driver with DDU, reinstalled driver from disk and tried cgminer again - still no good.

Tried it several, times and black screen every time

What is it with these 290's? Loads of people seem to be having problems

When you RMASSIVE ask how they're testing it and get them to replicate your system if possible. If you meet the card's min spec and it still doesn't work then it's not fit for purpose surely..
