Possible fix?

My 4850 just borked today when I dropped some aluminium foil onto it by accident(long story) while the computer was still on. I saw some sparks and my computer screen went blank.

So are there any possible fixes or am I destined to buy a new gpu? Only had it for little over a year as well and the warranty is gone.. :(

I'm going to wait it out for a day or 2 to see if it works again, but if not I need a new gpu and some recommendations.

I have around 100 odd to spend and am looking at the 5770. How much of an increase is that compared to 4850? Not much from what I can see, but I'm hoping the new drivers will give it a little boost.

cheers!

Which card have you got, quite a few have more than a years warranty on them, not sure
how they would react to you shorting you card though.

Not sure with the difference between the two still on my trusty 4850 :)

It should be Powercolor. I'm also fairly certain its only 1 year warranty.

Well I know its a slim chance for it to work again, but when I turn it on it seems to be somewhat working. As in the lights still turns on for the card.

Looks like I will have to replace then :(

I just purchased the XFX 5770 with an impressive 3 years warranty. I'll try to be less dumb this time, but even so, I have an extra 2 years to be an idiot :D. DX11 hear I come!

Problem is I am pretty sure that warranty doesn't cover you for dropping foil on them...............;)
