Hello, looking for advice on an issue i ran into about a month ago.
I have a p.c. which was built by a family member, unfortunately they live in another part of the country nowadays and can only offer me limited support to try sorting this out so i'm turning to here as i can't figure out what else could be causing the problem. i don't have internet access at home currently due to a multitude of issues, gettign this sorted hopefully within a week though, i do have access at another relatives house a short walk away so can use my laptop to get any software if needed.
Onto the problem at hand, about a month ago i was using the desktop as normal, shut down desktop and went to bed, when i got up in the morning the pc wouldn't boot it wouldn't even post,as im out of practice with the innards of pc hardware took me a little while to troubleshoot but i narrowed it down to possibly the gpu dying. but i'm not sure if this is definitely the issue and this is where my knowledge runs into a bit of a brick wall.
If the gpu is connected to the motherboard, the pc wont boot, it wont even post, just a black screen however the fans on the gpu will still spin, i have tried reseating the ram, cleaning contacts, resetting cmos and reinstalling the o.s. and updating graphics card drivers. I don't relish the idea of updating the mobo bios as i'm terrified of bricking the mobo aswell. Currently the gpu is still connected to the mobo via pci/e slot but just not receiving power as i have disconnected the pins to the psu.
i am wondering beyond what i have tried so far if therer are any other diagnostics i can try to see if it is indeed the gfx card that is borked or if there is perhaps an issue with the mobo or psu or any other components in the build?
i don't want to get another gfx card only to run into the same issue and end up throwing a tantrum with myself.
