Possible HDD failure on secondary HDD and boot issues

Hi all,

Thanks for any advice. My current system is:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Six Core 4.2GHz
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Team Group Dark T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz
MSI GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER VENTUS XS OC 6144MB GDDR6

System is recently upgraded and been running well for last 3 months. In the last couple of weeks I've started hearing a loud squeaking noise corresponding to HDD use. My boot drive is a Samsung EVO 250 and I have two secondary 2TB HDDs, one is a Samsung and other a 2TB Seagate I believe. The Seagate is getting long in the tooth.

So I suspect the Seagate was starting to go, but then last night, I heard it making continuous noise and when I tried to restart PC it wouldn't boot and was getting a VGA error light on the Motherboard EZPOST. Long story short, I unplugged the power from HDDs and it booted fine off the SSD, but as soon as the Seagate is connected PC won't boot and I can't get to BIOS. (BOIS otherwise has SSD as first boot device).

Everything points to HDD failure I think, but I have a lot of stuff on there I would like to recover.

- I'm wary of trying to try to hotplug the power on drive in while PC is on, to see if It works and try to move data.
- Is there any other option? remove and convert to an external drive?
- Am I missing any other options to try?
