Before I begin I urge you to read the background thread:

Ok so I have ran a memory test and I appear to be getting an error, here is a pic...

Is anyone able to get an idea of whats going on from that pic? It just looks like a load of jargon to me. Would there be the chance that not all of my memory is broken and I would still be able to use one or two sticks?

I also ran the windows memory diagnostic tool on UBCD and the memory failed on the Winvc and WMATS+ tests.

On another note, whilst having a look round UBCD I found a few anti virus programs and decided to give them a run. For some reason they aren't seeing any data on my C drive.

Any thoughts about this? I hope I don't have a corrupt h/d and ram :( :( :(

If the drive is NTFS then the scanner will need to be NTFS aware OR you'll need to be in some kind of DOS that is NTFS aware (ie the Windows XP recovery console boot disk). Otherwise it won't be able to read the partition I think. . . .

Hmmm that could explain the antivirus problem :)

You are correct :)

If the AV is a DOS app then it will expect a DOS partition and DOS file system.

The memtest result suggests you have a bad stick of RAM. I would guess the one in the lowest bank number, but testing one at a time would confirm which.

I have managed to get 2 sticks of 512mb working without any errors using memtest86+ v1.65. However I still seem to be getting the same problem. It gets to the Windows boot screen and re-boots. I think it could be to do with the windows setup? Any ideas?

Post everything that is in your rig on here, seriously, the smallest of components can make a system reboot...

Also, has this suddenly happened? Or are they fresh components etc?

AMD 64-bit 3700 san deigo
2GB PC 4000 (i think) crucial ballistix
7800GTX 256
250GB Western Digital (again not 100% sure) SATA.

The system came from OCUK i think it was called the ultima system and was purchased in october last year. I upgraded to 2GB about 6 months later. So no changes within the last 6 months or so....
