Possible memory probs?

Hi, ive been using a Geil dual channel kit for around 6 months (2 x 512mb) on my AMD 64 3200+ (Venice 939). Just recently i have been having problems with the "Blue Screen of Death" - completely freezing, with no way out other than restart.

This will only happen during the first 5 - 10 minutes of playing a game (games like BF2, AoE 3, sisters Sims 2 - which i consider memory hungry), after which i can continue to play with no more problems  I have also noticed that this only occurs after first boot of the day - once it gets going, i have no more probs; again

im guessing that the ram isnt refreshing fast enough, or that it is unable to clear itself fast enough to cope with the demand - whether this be through fault, or not enough memory (like i said, just guessing - not really sure how ram works)
Is the memory expiring, or am i thinking along the wrong lines - is there some other problem? Could it be that i need more ram to cope with an ever filling h'disk? i have just defragged after analysis recommended. I have 30gb of 80gb left (SATA), and fragmentation was at around 40-45%.

just to complete the picture, i am using a Radeon X800 GTO (256mb) - which should be adequate to run these games (unless it is this that is starting to crack?)

as you can see, i not exactly sure of what the hell is wrong :(
any help will be gladly received - thanks in advance :)

hi. my mobo is an Abit AN8 Ultra (but im also running the OTES RAMFlow system from the fatality package - for extra ram cooling)

im not exactly sure of what the rest means, so i have just got all the info that may be of importance:

HT Freq. - AUTO
HT Width - 16 16
CPU Operating Speed - 2000 (200)
Ex Clock - 200MHz
Multi. Factor - x10.0

CPU core 1.4v DDR SDRAM 2.6v DDR VTT 1.3v HT 1.2v nForce4 1.5v

on start up:
mem test - 1047552k OK
DDR400 CL 2.5 1T Dual Channel 128-bit

just to let you know, i am now having problems on restarts too. for example it will lose windows files, or registry files, or the h'disk, and it will occasionally sit on the logo screen doing nothing. but then, after a full shut down, it will restart fine?!

losing windows and registry files sounds like a HDD problem, if the HDD dissapears too, it could be that it's corrupted or on its way out. What are the temperatures of your CPU, chipset and HDD's? program like speedfan will give you HDD temperatures :)

I have seen problems like this caused by poor motherboards or problems with the motherboard. Have you tried a low level format and then a fresh install of windows (fully patched etc)? Tryi checking memory with mem test as well to see if the memory is up to scratch too

my temps are as follows:
CPU: 27-28 degrees
Sys: 26 degrees
PWM: 30 degrees

could someone give me a good link to memtest - there are that many, im not sure which one to use. also, how do i use it once d/loaded?

thanks

btw - i think i may have been confused before. when i said BSOD, i meant a completely blue screen - with no white error messages (apart from once, with the Machine check error). also, this blue was lighter than the normal blue screen (which is similar to this back ground colour)
