Possible modern classic?

I spoke to him again today, I asked what sort of money he is after. A bit more than I would really want to pay for a 2nd car. Think I will give it a pass and look for something that a bit more of a B road bashed. As much as I miss having a V8, I think the car will really need to keep original as possible and would like something I can lightly modify.

I think in many respects the 540i was (well ok the 535i even worse) the least useful E39.

It didn't have the drama or the performance of the M5 but it didn't have the sweeter handling or lower ownership costs of the 530i, either.

So why bother?

I don’t plan to, to be honest I wouldn’t have even considered it if he hadn’t passed by telling me he was going to sell it. Was tempted, but decided not to. I think I certainly missed the boat on the e39.

I bet they will. As we get closer to the EV deadline prices will keep climbing :\

Then when everyone has the car they want to be buried with it will stabilise.

Rubbish.

Nobody will want these. It's an old 5 series not a Jag E type.

As for prices climbing some rare sought after ones will for the rich. But if I had millions in the bank the last car i'd be looking at is a 540i. So things like ferrari, etc will do well as they always have when they became classics.

With cities pushing be car-free, many youngsters not having an inclination to drive and the decline of demand for petrol, it is hard to predict the state of a future market for these vehicles
