hi all,

wasn't sure if this forum or software would be better for it.

am contemplating move from android to apple.
been android user since the beginning.

i get that apps need to be bought again etc.

my biggest concern is all google home devices I got around home...chromecasts, google homes and minis

can i use those from within iOs easily ?
especially cast from apps to the tv via chromecast ?
I did search this using google but prefer ask users rather then read paid reviews etc

my biggest concern is the nest wifi wire alarm detectors... would those notify me on my apple device if something triggers it ..

thanks
Bastic

With regard to your google home stuff and nest, yes it works but you can’t really use Siri (voice command) from what I remember.

I still have Nest cameras and smoke alarms and get alerts without an issue, etc.

I also used the Google Home app whilst I had a couple of Chromecasts which worked fine. Some apps I could stream to the devices but not all I think.

I ended up switching them to Apple TV’s in the end though.

I have a Nest indoor camera and I receive notifications regularly with sounds or movements.

You can use the iOS Google home app and all your devices will show there but casting will be app dependent. Like you’d be able to use Google Assistant to listen to your podcasts for example, but if you try to use the iOS Google Podcasts app, it will only let you airplay…

But I think you’d be ok given your requirements.

thanks guys.

i do not use google assistant that much....occasionally for the weather check.
just use those as speakers with spotify.

so google home app and we should be ready to go.

and if youtube app casts normal, that's all i need...
TV has all the other apps for series/movies

I made the move to iPhone last year with the 12 and had used only Androids up to that point.
I still run my home from Google home speakers (two minis and a max) as well as a chromecast on the kitchen TV. All work fine and I have had no issues changing over at all.
As mentioned I highly doubt Siri would work but I never used voice assistants so that hasn't impacted me in the slightest.
I have the Google Home app installed on my iPhone and it works in exactly the same way it did on any of my preceding Androids.
I can't comment on the Nest Thermostat as I have a Hive setup but it has continued to work with the Google Home integration as before.

Very happy.
Similar to you I just CBA fiddling with launchers and themes etc anymore - I know I don't have to but when you have an Android the temptation is always there.
With a little one in the house now and adulting being my main "hobby" these days I do appreciate the unbox and go nature of the iPhone.

I will caveat by saying I already had an iPad I use for work and a MacBook Pro so I wasn't starting from scratch with Apple.

thanks

im a full PC person and have no need for macs etc. maybe ipad in future.

I used to be the same

i did have mac pro ages ago, full i7 17" unibody ... we didn't glue ;)
got mac air to the other half...she gave it back and has some high spec HP ...
only apple item we have is her iPad mini gen2 lol

been reading good things about apple tv if i would be to replace chromecast...

will see...will see how pixel 6 pro looks like and take from there

definitely tests of battery life in 13pro look very very good . main reason it got me thinking of switch

Made the switch last year, very happy so far.

- Google photos backup works fine if you use the google photos app often enough to keep it 'awake' to do backups.
- Nest Doorbell alerts work fine, as do motion alerts for cameras
- Nest Home/Away works less well. I don't think the app stays running in the background enough to be able to detect location etc.
- The Google home app works fine, but I've no need for the assistant on my phone and just use the Google speakers
- Most apps that support chromecast on Android will do so on iOS - however be aware it's not available for embedded videos or the browser etc.

I've found we've become less reliant on Google for some things. I've created a Homebridge server and linked all the same devices to that as we have on Google Home. I find 'Apple Home'/Homekit at least as good if not better than the Google Home system for the most part. Home/Away detections now work via a homekit Automation and work well, I get doorbell notifications fine still and can co-exist with our Google speakers etc. to give us the best of both worlds.

Glad I've seen this topic

I too I'm at that stage now where I am thinking of moving over to Apple on a permanent basis. Tbh nothing wrong with Android. But I'm just getting bored of it. My daughter and Mrs have iphone and I know it's only a matter of time I make the jump.

What I would like to know is, I pay for Google One 100gb storage.

What's the main key difference between icloud+ vs Google One? Which one is better to use as backup?

Are there any key elements I need to be made aware of? I'm soo used to Google eco system.
