possible new 290 tri x issue ?

hi guys

got my "new" 290 tri x today, first ever time in my life ive gone amd

dosent seem too bad,

but its currently idling at 42.c is that okay ?

also, if i oc it to 1080 core on ungine heaven, i get coloured sparkle artifacts

ps: actually, adding some mv got rid of them, so now its just the question of why does it run so hot - h440 case by nzxt

42c I would class as cold. When you start reaching 90c + then start wondering

yeah true, i had it on heaven for the full run and its hottest was 80c its just on all these reviews they tout 31-35c idle and 74c load mines 42c

Depends on the ambient temp the unit is being tested in.

Idle temps can be varied quite a lot, full load temps are what you need to check which you have done and 6c difference I would not worry to much.

When I had the 290 Tri-X it sat at around 42c , but in game it would only get to about 65-67c ish

i had the fan speed on auto, do i have to adjust the fan curve or flash the bios ?

Did you know that there have been issues with some of the 290 Tri-X cards ?...I had mine replaced by OcUK ...I went for the MSI 780 as a replacement .

I had vibration issues ..also couldn't even play a game properly ..was getting freeze ups and one or two BSOD.


Shame really cos I did actually like the card.

im not getting anything like that tbf, getting solid performance, i just didnt realise any sort of OC demanded a jump in mV from the get go, my only issue really is finding the best driver to go with, as performance varies in games, it tells me 64fps in the ultra benchmark in tombraider, OCing gives me the same :/ then another time itl say 73, cant quite get my head round it. wondering if a bios flash and a fresh windows will help

42 is fine on idle, I was idling at 35 but then it was 5 degrees hotter in my room yesterday.

AMD Drivers were also part of why I got rid of the card

Im feeling your pain, but, ive only spent a few hours with the card, i can always just wait for maxwell then pawn this off it it dosent work out

performance wise this card is a monster, i got 83 fps avg in ungine heaven yest with 1080p 4xaa and normal tess
