Ok I think my old system is dead. Now I have an Antec P180 case, brand new fans including and arctic freezer pro 7, and a brand new Corsair 750W HX PSU (along with my old HDD's). But if my mobo/cpu is knackered then what would your guys suggest. I don't want a pure gaming computer but something cheap and reliable. But is a little more powerful than the old Aus A8n Sli deluxe running two 7800 GTX video cards. Any suggestions

Seeing as I don't have a clue about these things ... are they good quality? within reason I don't expect it to match my gaming system but as long as it performs equal or better than my old:
Asus A8n sli deluxe
athlon 64 FX-55
2 gig ram
Asus 7800 GTX sli cards
then I would be happy

What say thee ??? :)

The system above will beat you current system no probs.

What resolution do you normally play at.

Now a couple more questions ... my old system has XP Pro on it. Will I have to re-install windows again or can I just put all the new hardware in and fire it up?

If your Xp is just 32bit (which i suspect), you'll not be able to use the 4gb of ram, usually only about the 3gb mark. But it should be fine to just use your current install of Xp :)

+ if it was a 64bit XP, then its fine :)

In this day and age is it worth sticking with XP on a system that could do more, or should I upgrade the OS at the same time? I have a Windows 7 install disc that came with my OCUK build, could I install from that and pay for a licence?

So I would not have to re-install windows at all .... that's good news :D
I think you would have to reinstall the Window XP if the new motherboard's different brand from your existing one.

When I was still using XP, I changed from one MSI board to another MSI board, and I didn't have to reinstall the XP. But when my dad move from from one brand to to another brand's motherboard, he could no longer go into Window and require a reinstall.

And yea the AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 630 is a good budget Quad Core. Its performance is roughly around the same as Core2Quad's Q6600.

darn it that puts the build price up a bit more .... I really want this build to be a workhorse, for the family, for video proccessing and for downloading 24/7. Now I have my XP Pro disc still, but it's probably not worth using it if I can only run 3 gig ram .... so Win7 it will have to be ...
