Possible OS Error - Windows 7

Hi!
So in the past few days things seem to have been going a little odd for no apparent reason! It started with my game clients (Steam, Origin and Battle.net) crashing constantly and not being able to load up and games.
Then Task Manager couldn't kill the processes or process trees for Steam.exe or Origin.exe.
After that, when I tried rebooting my system, it stayed on the 'Shutting Down' screen for a good half an hour before actually shutting down.
The search function at the bottom of the start menu basically no longer actually searches for anything.
I went to preform a Disk Defragmentation but it came up with the error 'Disk Defragmenter cannot start because the task scheduler service is not running. Start the task scheduler service and try again'.

I've reinstalled all game clients, done a full sweep with my AV several times which found nothing. Tried repairing my OS from the boot disk to no avail. I went to do a system restore but the only restore points that it gave me were from yesterday which is when the problem was already occurring and I'm not sure where to really go from here.

I'm hoping its an OS problem or some other software and not hardware but I'm not all too sure.

Many thanks!

I restored all the Windows 7 file extension sites that that page had to offer but things are still crashing and not working correctly.

Have you ran check disk at all on the HDD for any bad blocks?

also try malwarebytes as this is normally quite good at finding malware etc

if all else fails try a different sata cable and different sata port on the mobo

also check event viewer on the crashes as it should report what the issue is and what caused it

I've been thinking that one of my HDDs has been slowly dying and CHKDSK brought up the 'the type of file system is raw' error when trying to run it on that drive but thats just a secondary drive without any of my OS files so I'm not sure why that would start causing everything else to mess up.

I am using malwarebytes and have run several scans :)

I'll try the different hardware options soon!

Event viewer came up with 'Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.'
