Possible problem

I am using the onboard Realtek HD audio that my mobo has.

The system case has headphone and mic sockets on the front which are course connected to the mobo header the correct way.

I cannot get any audio from this when I connect a headset with microphone.

Now I do have the ports on the rear connected to my 5.1 amp so is this why ?

Tried looking at the Realtek software and Windows audio settings too.

What do I need to do to get any audio in or out of the front sockets.

when you plug a jack in does a box pop up asking you what you plugged in?

Yes I have. Tried the original install DVD that came with the mobo and the latest version from the Realtek websits

No I get no pop up box appearing.
