Possible PSU problem?

Hi all,

I built a machine (as in signature) a few years back and it's remained in that setup.

I used a fractal designs newton modular 800w psu, which of late has become a bit 'clicky' like the fan isn't running right.

Also, when I recently played games for a few hours there was a slightly warm smell on occasion (almost like a old 'scalextric controller' smell :)) Not an acrid burning, but enough to notice it smelling warm.

No instability in the machine, rest of the temp sensors look like they are about right. Plays games ok for hours. I'm going to take the machine apart later today, but I'm guessing i'd want to replace something like a psu before it fails.

So if it is the psu, what sort of replacement am I looking at?
Needs to fit (fan down) in a Fractal Designs R1 case, would want it to be as quiet as possible too.

'Fraid i've not looked at pc components in ages, i'm presuming a new psu would be compatible with my mobo, etc.?

Thanks for your help as always :)

Thanks guys. Ive taken the side off the machine now, definite clicking from the psu.

Do you think 600w would be enough?

It's an i7 920(stock), ati 5770, 2 x samsung spinpoint f3.

Thanks for the help, i've really no clue in judging power needs :)

Just want to check, the psu im looking at ordering is listed as:

ATX 2.31, EPS 2.92

Just checked my old psu, it's:

ATX 2.2, EPS 2.91

There won't be any compatilbility issues with my old machine, will there?

Thanks guys :)
