This is wrong, and not what they said.

They said 2x perf per watt.
They said 1/2 the power (draw).
They said faster than a 290X (but not how much, could be 1FPS).

Would it be worth going to 2x Fury X from 295X2 + 290X? I am thinking I would be best off waiting for die shrink HBM2 cards perhaps?

No, at stock it is 2% - 4% faster depending on resolution. Some leaked (though not confirmed) benchmarks show Fury X ~ 10% faster than a 980Ti.

Can be a long wait for HBM2 as we dont know when and what issues there can be. die shrink isnt simple.

Will be interesting to find out how much stock of the Fury X is available on the 24th, hopefully lots to keep the retailers from bumping up the price.

Looks are subjective, you call it an abomination and I think it looks wonderfully minimalistic. Though personally performance at 4K will be my yardstick.

Wonder how much the dual board will be, and what kind of cooler it will use. Would need a bigger aio for sure, was mentioned that the aio for fury x is rated for upto 500 watts and the fury x only uses around 275 or so.

Air cooled ones will be good as well, if you check the 390X cards here http://videocardz.com/56473/amd-radeon-300-graphics-cards-roundup you can see, all the manufacturers held back their best coolers.
Like the gigabyte 390X SOC only has a 2 fan cooler, while they have the 3 fan which is on the 980Ti SOC
