Hallo!

So I'm down in wales for the weekend and I might have been snapped speeding.

Was doing about 35 in a 30 and I think I saw the flash of a static camera behind me.

Anyway, regardless if I have or not what is the general procedure for fines with hired cars? I read that an nip will be issued to the hire company, they will return with the hirers details, then will reissue to the hirer. Is that correct?

And what's the current amount? £60 plus 3 points?

Thanks

Do the course. £70 I think.

Will cost you one afternoon.

Fine £60 and 3 points.
Will last 4 years on your license then another £20 or so to have them taken off.
Plus a slight increase in the insurance premium but not much.

I went with pay the fine and take the points.
Wish I'd taken the course. But it does show the aftermath of crashes.

The minimum fixed penalty is £100 now, and has been for some time.

Speed awareness courses seem to be around £90, so it's cheaper and you don't get any penalty points - seems like a no brainer to me.

If it's a hire car, you can expect them to normally put a fee on top for passing on details.

I think enterprise cars had £100 in the terms and conditions.

Static camera vans do not flash at you as they use laser and video recording equipment. 35mph on your speedo will be 31-32mph so unless they are having a splurge you would have been safe.

Yes the the NIP being issued to the hire company and they return it with your details so it can be sent to you.

The speed awareness course seems like something that every new driver should go through before being issued a full license.

Yep, your probably right..

My wife has to do the course so she can drive the works vans.

I would not have passed my test if I had to watch. I would faint at the sight of blood.

You'll get a £30-75 "admin" fee from the hire company too... it'll be in the contract details of the hire if you want to find out how much they will charge you on top of the fine.

Lasts 3 years and costs nothing to take off.

Insurance company's will ask you if you have had any fines in the last 5 years tho.

£20 if you apply by post but you can do it online for free according to that link

Sorry. How can you have a physical points endorsement written on your paper license taken off online.
You have to send the paper bit off.
They send you back a whole new document with no points on.
For this they charge £20.

If you move home and change your addy this is done for nowt.

Removal of expired endorsements / Apply online / N/A

ahhh.

Well I have to admit I have had my share.:(

How will police and the courts record endorsements?

The police can access this information electronically at the roadside via the Police National Computer so the paper licence doesn't add anything extra. All endorsement notifications will be recorded electronically after any court proceedings and are detailed on the driver record held by DVLA.

Well I never knew that ??

Probably means we could have points taken of for nowt, if it is all done electronically. In fact maybe automatically ?

! I have a feeling it didn't flash but just wanted to check what would happen. It might not have even flashed at me as someone went past a bit quicker.

Thanks all, I will check the hire documents and see what sort of fee they would charge and just wait and see if anything comes in the post.

If I do get a fine, I will be gutted as my licence was up for renewal in September, almost 9 years without a fine!!!(10 if you count provisional)

I'm sure I read an article somewhere recently saying the speeding courses aren't quite so "good" now some insurance companies asking you to declare them (no doubt with an increase in premium). There's also the question of how far you have to travel to attend if you can't go locally.
