Now, I hate all the jumping on the bandwagon that goes on with terrorism these days, and I'm loathed to do it myself.

However, and without going into too much detail, a colleague at work was connected to a customers site remotely, and saw some slightly suspicious stuff in internet explorer. Now he closed the browser before looking around much and as such could have completely the wrong idea. He wants to download the browser history and cache and have a look through to see if its an actual problem, but I've told him not to do it because it's virtual snooping, and I hate the idea of the orwellian society where we all report on each others slightly suspicious behaviour - after all you can browse plenty of sites that are dodgy but don't actually make you a subversive.

What would you?

Even if you found something you could still lose your job for the snooping. I wouldn't bother as chances are it's nothing.

There is snooping and justified cause.

Ultimately though people should be free to look at anything they want (within reason i.e. no paediophilia etc) but they should also be accountable and be able to justify it.

I love fire and explosions - does not mean I am about to start blowing up trains. More likely to make bonfire night more interesting.

leave it i recon.

then if anything does blow up you know you should have looked....... but is it not illegal to do that sort of thing?

Well no I couldn't lose my job, but it's not me that wants to investigate it further. I've told him to leave it alone as it's probably nothing.

I wouldn't personally, but if he has 'that gut feeling' and is bothered by it then he should go for it.

Who's gonna know?

If your friend is going to do this make sure they follow whatever procedure you have in place for such an eventuality.

Can you be a little more specific about "slightly suspicious stuff? I understand the need to keep things secret here, but just a rough idea...?

Persoanally I would have a look, but then im nosey. The moral thing to do however is to infrom the authorities that you have seen something you feel might be suspicious so would appreciate if they took a closer look.

Well ok, it was a website entilted "<Something> Terrorism University" (I didn't see it for long so can't remember all of it) with some pictures of fundamentalists in masks doing the 'wave your gun in the air' thing.
