Or do you have to use an AOL connection to the internet?

Lol, doesn't make a lot of sense really does it...

What I need to find out is if it is possible to use AOL's internet software suite while being conmnected to the internet via say a Virgin/BT/whatever connection.

I believe if your connecting through a router then you can.

Although now Im gonna have to live with myself for telling someone how to use AOL

What difference does connecting through a router make to it?

Don't worry about the AOL thing, it's all part of the plan to ween him off it slowly.

We've been waiting for someone to answer it.

The rest of us are just trying to fathom the idea of actually wanting to try it.

It's not hard to fathom, the chap in question is set in his ways and has been using AOL software for about seven years, he only got broadband six months ago and is very very resistant to the big change of moving over to IE/FF, OE/TB etc etc. His AOL connection has been nothing but trouble since he got it and I'd like to move him to a more reliable ISP without the need of forcing him off of the AOL software just yet.

From my experience of the AOL software on broadband I found that it was often the reason for drop-outs. Switching to a direct connection stopped them.
