ok so ive got a 1.1 pug 106, 98 zest 3 with 75bhp

according to wisebuyer guides, the car does 0- 60 in 15.4 aparently, although timed it the other day, with me and my mate in the car, he was only timing witha stop watch but we did it several times, and i managed to do it in 13.8 seconds

now surely it shouldnt go faster than the spec should it, or is the spec wrong?

Your time is useless becuase:

a) The margin of error on the part of the stop watch user could be +- 1 second at each end
b) Your speedo is not 100% accurate

The 0-60 time of your car is 'Absolutely Ages'. Thats all you need to know :p

Is the difference between "really really really slow" and "really really slow" that important to you?

Peugeot never made a 1.1 TU engine with 75 BHP, these dizzy heights were reserved for members of the 1.4 brigade. You will have a mighty 62 BHP at your disposal.

My 1.1 TU is 55 BHP :)

On the speedo point - 100mph on the clock was equivalent to about 90mph GPS - so towards the dusty end I was gaining up to 10mph on the dial. To do 60mph in real terms (well, measured by GPS) requires about 65 on the clock.

Pug stats are usually 2 adults people in the car, luggage and a full tank of fuel. Obviously with less fuel, no luggage etc it'll be quicker..

I find it is so hard to get that 0-60 as well, it must have been done by someone who knew what they were doing. I am about 2 seconds slower than the statistic for the ford mondeo, no offence but you are well out. :)

It was +50% payload* exactly if I recall. Peugeot don't quote their figures like that anymore.

*Payload being Gross-Kerb weight.

The engine in your car, I suspect, is a TU1 unit:

1124cc (1.1L) SOHC 8v
44kW (59 HP) @ 5500rpm, 94Nm (69 lb-ft) @ 2700rpm

With a kerb weight of approximately 815kg, it gives a power-to-weight ratio of 72hp/ton, and a torque-to-weight ratio of 85lb-ft/ton.

Pug stats are always well out.

No they aren't, like many manufacturers they done using 'everyday' driving guidelines which means a full or half tank with a 75kg + driver and not overstressing the box when taking off.

Its highly likely you'll beat the majority of manufacturers 0-60 and top speed specifications, regardless of manufacturer.

I can assure you this is not the case. Different manufacturers use differing measuring standards. You'll have to check each individual company for the exact terms of the testing.

I know a stress tester, he's worked for many manufacturers and he said that when doing the official figures then generally wern't allowed to 'hammer' the cars like they did for everyday testing. :)

It looks better for insurance purposes anyway.

Years ago I had a TD 306 and the stock figure was 11.9s to 60 or somthing like that, I got it timed on a true GPS system at 10.4s with a serious launch and second shift.

Its easy to beat manufacturer stats, I don't know why they are so tame?

It's definitely not the same for everyone. I work as a researcher for a company that do a similar job as Parker's, but for the industry. I've found the differences between measuring standards on all sorts of specification to be quite big in some cases! :p

Although my opinions are only based on what they put on paper. I've never actually witnessed the testing, unfortunately.

omg dont get started someone will come in saying how a 10sec 0-60 on a td 306 is impossible !!!:P
