Can you buy a T connector? Was thinking of having my 1TB external drive hooked up to the tv and pc (USB ports).

dont really understand the question fully tbh

but if you mean can you get a external usb caddy to work off the usb ports on a tv, the answer is yes if it's a powered usb caddy, if not then get a 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive External USB2.0 one which is powered straight off the usb, getting a 3.0 one maybe a waste as your device may not use the extra speed etc, and also dont go to high with size either as not all will be seen.

you could always use a media box, small usb HD TV Digital Mini Media Player - 1080p - 5.1 Surround Sound - MKV - Play any file from USB HDDs/Flashdrives/Memory Cards - Surround Sound Out 5.1 etc

cheap and easy to setup and would use the drive you have for £20

He means a sort of USB splitter so that he can have the hard disk plugged in to both the PC and the PC, and they both read from it at the same time.

I'd say no you couldn't, have you considered just plugging your PC in to your TV by HDMI?

Yup, would be a splitter? or T connector as it would be connected to my pc and tv at the same time; external hd has its own power supply. I really don't see why the external hd can't be hooked in to both at the same time. Just something I'm just going to have to build I guess...

You won't be able to have the same drive connected to two devices at the same time. You may be able to make some kind of switch but you won't get it working on both simultaneously because the USB spec doesn't allow for this. It's a connection between a host and an endpoint and when you're throwing two hosts into it it's going to mess things up :)

Good to know.

USB Switch - Job done.

EDIT: Maybe I shouldn't post that link - £7.99 for a USB 2.0 Manual Switch is easy enough to find via Google.
