Hey all i have a Acer Aspire 6920g

Has an okay graphics card: 9500mgs

but im really held back by my CPU being oly 2GHz

Is there anyway to increase this?

I dont have any heat issues and can get an extra fan if needeed

thanks all

Replace the processor with a higher speed. I replaced mine with T9000 series 2.5 ghz. Works great and no heat issue or what so ever.

without sounding like an arse here, if you need to ask about overclocking and your running a lappy its probably not the best idea to give it a try. Id prob just agree with Bees and upgrade the CPU. Is there anything your trying to run on there in particular?

Unless you have one of these Extreme edition mobile CPUs, you can't really overclock them outside of pin mod.

edit; actually, I think you can overclock few CPUs slightly, Alienware laptops gives you the option, but it's only BLCK and that isn't really ideal, they're Sandy Bridge mobile processors. (I might be wrong, but it's what I've picked up hanging around on Alienware forums)

If you can find out what PLL chip the laptop uses then you'll be able to clock using SETFSB/CPUFSB no problem. The results will be particularly bad though, especially compared with desktop overclocks.

overclocking laptop needs lots of research....i.e what laptop to buy next after it over heats and kills everything.

Not a brilliant idea. I esspecially wouldnt do it on an aver aspire laptop, mine we shabang and it was desked its whole life or used with a custom cooler cushion. They have a tendancy to overheat stock no matter how good care is.

@gambitt
I thought vaio's all have powersave mode? just activate that as it will underclock to save power

I don't know about your particular model laptop, but as stated above I did some research and found out I could drop a 920m extreme edition cpu in my laptop. Which is what I have done, and used a little program called 'throttle stop' to use/clock/unlock all of the cores for a significant performance boost and with manageable heat. This also works the other way and allows you to underclock to save energy. But I've not tried that yet ;-)

Similar principle for the gpu I have swapped out, for a 6970m. It's undervolted and working superb at stock with manageable heat. But muchly improved performance over my gpu.
