Hi,

Is it at all possible to remove a person from an image, yet keeping the background intact?

If so, what's the best method and software to do such a thing, will Fireworks be up to doing it, or are we talking along the lines of PhotoShop for such a thing.

Thanks

Certainly possible (Filmwise Invisibles for example), but requires a fair bit of skill and yes, would be more of a Photoshop job (not sure about the Fireworks toolset). You're looking at using the "clone stamp" and "heal" tools, copying part of the background from one area of the image over the part you're replacing. There's obviously no way to get the actual background from the image, you simply have to fake it.

The degree of success will largely depend on what background is behind the person - a white wall, or repeating 'patterned' background (a leafy bush or such) would be much more simple than trying to replace a complex scene that you can't simply clone from a different area of the image.

Some links from Google:

Unfortunately I don't have Photoshop at work, else the cloning stamp method would be ideal.

Anyway I've managed to do something in Paint Shop Pro, it ain't perfect but it'll do so long as I reduce the size so it's not as obvious ;)

Thanks
