Hello all,

I've got an odd problem with a computer in the office (AMD triple core something or other) It was one of the vista with xp downgrade ones.

Using Windows xp home, things were working ok. But today the pc froze momentarily in the morning before resetting itself (no error warnings or blue screen) and this afternoon it froze again but didn't reset. It had to be manually hold down the power button till it went off. Now just before I left work my colleague was about to open outlook when the computer froze again and this time there was a continuous beep. He manually reset again got through to windows and he was about to close msn and it happened again. He's currently backing up all his files and I'm out of the office now but does anyone know if his pc is on its way out? Its around 1yr old now.

Also earlier on after the first freeze and reset he scanned with a-squared and found a 'trojan downloader.win32.mebroot!k' which was deleted with no problems.

I had a quick google about the beep but the only one i could find was about possible ram / video card or possibly the motherboard being at fault.
There is only the onboard graphics so would rule that out. one stick of generic crap ram on an equally generic crap motherboard.

Run event viewer and see what there is under System at around the time of the lockups.

Randomly resetting itself would suggest a power issue, but I am not sure if that would fit the other problems too.

unfortunately I wont be able to try out anything till monday now but hopefully I'll manage to get to the root of the problem.

Quick question, where about is the event viewer?

EDIT :

Found it under admin tools in control panel. I knew it was somewhere in control panel but couldnt think where
