Hi,

Wanting to do a new build (i7 6700k with 980ti SLI) and for the first time want to do a custom watercooling loop with acrylic tubes.

My question is, is it possible to do a decent watercooling setup that doesnt sound loud? Every watercooling build i have heard sounds loud? If i set the fans on low speeds , would that undermine the effectiveness of the watercooling? Doing that am i likely to see no benefit from a decent air cooler?

I plan to overclock both the processor and gpus (not excessively though)

Matt

Dunno what systems you've heard, but if they're even approaching the noise of most aircooled GPU's, then they're doing something very wrong.

One of the major reasons for doing watercooling in the first place is reduced noise :)

The loudest was on demo in the overclockers shop lol

Sounded like a tank.

It was a big build to be fair but the one i plan on doing is in a big case too

If you're doing a big build you can dial down the fans a lot, i've heard people say with big enough size/quantity of rads if you turn the fans off you only lose about 10c in cooling.

i ran passive with a bunch of big rads for years.

quiter than air gpu is very easy, on the cpu front with the huge tower coolers then its down to pump noise i think, my mums scythe tower, the fan just steps up a smidge under full load with a i5 at 4.5ghz.

and you still need system fans/airflow or random motherboard bits will overheat, or in danger of.

Literally the main selling points for watercooling for me is 1) is super quiet and 2) looks awesome. Then after that comes awesome low temps haha!

Use a Laing D5 vario, pump, they are nice and quiet because you only have to set them to 2 or 3, and get a decent amount of radiator space so you can have your fans running at like 500rpm or even off.

Basic points for a quiet watercooled PC :)
