I have built a couple of PCs in the past helped by information from these boards :)

What I have never done though is actually upgraded to much extent other than cooler/gfx/memory.

I have en old E6600 running at 3.2 and was thinking of upgrading to an I5. It's been a cracking chip but I think the time has come. I would need I guess a new chip/mobo/memory/cooler but the real question is it as simple as that?

Can I just pull out those bits and pop the new ones in or are there unforseen nightmares awaiting me?

It all depends on what your using your machine for. Im guessing your 2mb of RAM is 2Gb so you could get a 4Gb setup (2x2gb). 3.2Ghz on a dual core is suitable enough for gaming for at least 6 months to a year. Cant remeber what GFX card you have but thats always a choice for an upgrade option. Your system isnt too bad, atm people going for I7's & I5's are benchmarkers and require the most cutting edge PC's. If your not 1 of those people i would suggest upgrading things such as monitor, sound or dare i say it your social life
