Hi, After getting a RMA PSU for my main system windows wouldn't boot. Tried repairing and that didn't work. So i backup everything i needed and started afresh.
When formatting the disk (15gb partition) it got to 20% and then hung...
Tryed again on the 175gb partition and the same happened
Did a quick format and all seemed well until:

^Major eek, but windows says it doesn't need defragmenting.

What should i do? RMA or see what happens?

Help much appreciated

It may not do. Remember, that is a 15GB partition. The HUGE green is your pagefile which is always unmovable. That's probably at default 1.5GB, which makes sense if you look at the total size of the partition. Then, although the files look quite fragmented, they aren't really as they are all within close range of each other. If you want, just defrag anyway - I don't always listen to windows about defragging, I just hit defrag and it does it. :) Hope that helps.

About the disk errors though, do run a:

chkdsk /r

from recovery console or:

chkdsk <drive letter>:

just make sure there aren't any bad blocks etc. If there are in the windows one, run a chkdsk /r and let it schedule for next reboot :).

Well finally managed to sort it out. Haven't got a clue why it stopped at 20% on both partitions, still
Properly formatted both so should all be good, now the "small" task of getting windows setup how i want it *doh*

ty for input

Well after getting some off the files off it it seams my 120gb SATA Maxtor drive has bitten the dust :(
Was copying files and some of them wouldn't copy, thought nothing of it. Went on to get other files, more wouldn't copy. Then folders wouldn't copy and now when i look in my computer it is there but if i click to open it it fails to *sigh*

With RMAing of HDs (its got till end of 2007 left on warrenty) do then ship you another out and then you ship yours or other way round. Or could i get a refund of its current price as i i don't want to risk using Maxtor ever again (have had two Maxtors failed on me)?

Also what good free software/progs/apps are there for getting data off a deadish drive?

Thanks very much
