I think theatre in London has had its dressed code pulled down a bit due to the fact that so many tourists also go to the theatre in London now. And when they go they go in casual/smart casual attire.

I personally think it's best to make an effort, even more so if you're going out for a meal as well. May as well make a night of it.

exactly! i didnt want to go to dinner wearing jeans or something, and ti was my birthday so i wanted to wear pretty shoes and dress!

I once went in jeans and a shirt as I didn't want to look over-dressed.... Arrived and EVERYONE was in suits and formal dresses, I felt so out of place :(
