it need whether the "changes the way I perceive them" part is positive or negative though :p

Personally not a fan of the disdain new members are treated with tbh, would like it hidden.

Like Moses says people judge it on how often they've seen the poster before not his post count.

In your case, negative you spammer :p

Doesn't really bother me one way or another, post count is just another meaningless statistic and has no bearing on the quality of the posts the user has made on the forum (see above poster for example :p)

I think the Joined date is much more influential than Posts count though together they can give a very general picture.

Someone who joined in June 2010 with a post count of 5,000 needs to go get some fresh air and get laid.

More or less my thoughts too on the subject...post counts dont really mean much to me but the joined date is important when looking at posts by certain posters etc.

Doesn't bother me at all, but it is always quite amusing when someone says to another Poster 'OMG Get a life!!' and then someone points out their 60,000 Posts.

It is also quite amusing spotting 'New' Members from their Registration Date with quite large Post Counts who also seem to know the history of the Forums from way back when, like they'd been here before somehow...Under a different Username... They think they're smart but it's so obvious it's funny! :D

Why is joined date important?

That's even more arbitrary than post count, why not judge on content rather than some date?

For MM, a long join date and high post count and you will probably be safe.

people post here because we get some sort of enjoyment out of it, so you wouldn't risk it for a few quid. Of course it could happen but it's an indicator if they have low or no trust.

I have noticed a user with 5k of posts in 6 months... with this in mind I can only take the assumption of potential spam. This is an unfair account as this person may be a very talented and helpful individual. On the same note, I only have sub 150posts, have been here a year, have spent little times on the forum until last week and have been made a moderator. How would one judge myself based on this?

Keep it. Higher postcount usually denotes someone is to be trusted more (else they'd have already been banned) and have more experience in the subforums.

Take part in a few active threads and your post count will rise quickly, why would this imply trustworthy?
Also, what about those that have bought posts previously?
Or even those given away? I think I've given away over 10k. Others gave away all their posts previously

Post count means lots of posts, that is all

When i see a stupid comment, i usually look at the post count.
If the count is low, then i think 'oh, it's just a new guy being stupid'
If it's high, i think 'oh, so that's how he got such a high post count - by posting lots of crap'.
So yea, seeing the post count makes no difference :p

There are loads of people who are calling for the removal of post counts. I'm unconvinced this really makes a difference. I'm not asking if you want them removed, just whether they make a difference to you personally.

Aren't post counts the norm for forums? I don't think there removal would change anything, leave it as it is. If someone wants to jump to a conclusion based on a post count, then :/ (seems to be a popular response these days)
