Got in last night to find my computer not posting. Had the memory out, different configs, battery and CMOS reset, gpu out, and nothing is making a difference, of course I've had out all usbs and other cards, no wires are touching to cause a short circuit.

I had been getting weird noises from the psu in recent months, so it is prime candidate right now, though all fans are spinning when powered on, the gpu fan doesn't go wild like it usually does for a couple of seconds before the usual post beep.

Also after a fiddle around it took a few attempts for it to even power on, just totally dead, back on now though and back to not posting.

Whats the minimum hardware config for a post? Mobo/CPU/Mem? That's how i've got it right now, and still nothing, all fans spin nicely, but no beep.

Mobo: Gigabyte P35c DS3R

Any ideas welcome.

Cheers

Steven.

I left it on for a bit just to see what would happen and it switched itself off only to bring itself back on again and then back off a second later, it stayed in this cycle.

Do you have any known working PSU you can swap in? Certainly sounds like the PSU from what you've said (gpu fan not spinning as fast, weird noises, not powering up at all some times)

I havent got access to another psu, but do have access to a multimeter, but with no experience of electrical testing at that level it's a bit daunting. I could try the psu in another pc. Edit that sounds strange but I could take this psu to my dads and see if it boots up his computer.

Its getting stranger, computer now just switches on and back off again, in that loop cycle I was talking about, so getting worse! Lol

seeing if your psu works fine in your dads computer would certainly help; idealy you would then (if it didn't work in your dad's) test your dads psu in your computer and see if that then solves the problem.

Right, got an old base unit coming down at 5pm, should be able to switch out psu, memory, gpu (though I don't think it's that) and CPU, will start with the psu, I'm just trying to think of the best way to test vs frying anything in the old rig since it's not mine.

Any suggestions?

Aye it's the psu, cheap one from old rig posted, put in the via card from the old rig as well and got the computer in to windows.

Agh £60 I haven't got, mind could have been worse.
