That is very quick. And more that that really, the way he keeps maximum speed through the corner towards the end of the straight scares me!.

think the 917 could hit about 240 down the straights back in the day! seriously impressive, loving that motogp vid freefaller, my fav video of all time is the 3 rotor ae86, the guy's faces are just awesome! always cracks me up! shame its already been posted!

Post as many vids as you like, better than seeing multiple threads with links to google video. Though i'd make this thread so we can just dump them into one tbh

Astonishing to think that those things weighed about 800kilos and in non-turbo form developed around 600bhp.
Coupled with no driver aids makes for a time when these racing drivers really did take massive risks.

A variation of the 917 was developed to race in the US CanAm series which added a couple of turbos to the mix..these developed about 1100bhp (apparantly more in qualifying trim....Autocar reported that peaks of 1500bhp were recorded). :eek:
All that in the early '70s...brilliant stuff.
