Post Your Garden!

I think it's been too cold for grass seed to grow until the last few days. And as well as being too cold, it's been really dry as well.

The areas I've really needed to get going (where I've cut plants away and wanted to reseed an area of lawn) I've had covered with some spare corrugated clear roofing I had lying around. The grass underneath that started growing within a week, and the grass not covered still hasn't started to grow. Also stopped birds getting at the seed.

That's an idea to be fair, shame I don't have any.

I'm going to try vigorously watering it, otherwise I'll throw more seed in the parts I'm not digging up in a month or two.

I just have this many docks left to remove

And a few of whatever this nasty grass is

Should be able to finish it later today / tomorrow, and my spade and pitchfork should arrive tomorrow too to then work on loosening the soil.

Composter from the council's discounted site will be 14-28 days for delivery though

It's finally raining after I finished removing all of my weeds earlier today, and my shovel and pitchfork also arrived today too!

SHOVEL SHOVEL SHOVEL ALL DAY TOMORROW!

I still dont know how I even got this house for so cheap on rich estate, god bless affordable housing.

Still waiting for my 10L watering can for when I reseed, but the shovelling will take me at least another week.

I gotta hope no one will steal my tools from my backyard, but it shouldn't happen because most of the fancy houses have garden ornaments and hanging baskets that haven't ever been nicked.

You're right. Cheaper at Wickes.

Although, please double check my maths here - but.

If you bought 20 bags of this - that should make up the same as 1m3 (50L x 20 = 1000L), and would cost £80 (£4 x 20).

Perhaps people pay for the convenience of not having to open and dispose of 20 bags of compost. Maybe a local builders merchants would be better value.

Just bear in mind that it may not be as simple as adding a load of top soil on top because you’ll be raising the ground level and the soil has to go somewhere.

You will likely need to remove the existing earth by digging down to the rubbish underneath removing it, and back filling with top soil. It’s a mini digger job being realistic and could be done in a day for that sized plot if you had some help, it’s back breaking work by hand.
