Edit: I thought this was in consoles - which also applies here :)

Since there has been a lot of Final Fantasy talk these days I decided to hit up some Youtube vids for a bit of nostalgia, and I came across one that even though this game is so old it still gave me a little goosebumps because of how intense it is, or was for that period of gaming.

Everything comes into play here, these atmosphere, ambience, music, setup, characters.. just so good.

This probably won't appeal to everyone as being "intense" but go ahead and post what you find intense in a game (no long cut scenes please)

Mine is actually Final Fantasy VII too, it was the moment you launched the final assault from the bottom of the crater. Three epic boss battles, one after the other, epic music and the conclusion of an epic storyline to really get the heart rate going.

Most intense moments for me still has to be Quake 3 DM17 Instagib 1v1 tourneys back in the day.. I'd end up shaking and needing a cup of tea to get over the adrenaline rush when on a very close winning streak :p

Actually, scratch my previous one. Zone of the enders 2, final boss, so manic you can't even tell what's going on in the youtube video:

That was amazing.

I found the hotel chase in Call of Cthulhu pant-wettingly intense. The rest of the game was pretty dull and slow-paced and then BLAM it threw this out of nowhere. One of those games you play with headphones on and the lights off.

Probably Resident Evil 2 on the Playstation, when you're facing a licker or a boss, and all you have left is 7 pistol rounds, a knife and a green herb :p

Or walking around in Silent Hill 1, radio on with static, making noise whenever a bad guy came near and not being able to see more than 3ft in front of you due to fog.

That was pretty intense.

Planetside - defending a base from all sides, gal drops, air spam, tanks, cloakers, max rushes, spawns overrun, cc being hacked - somehow managing to fight back, gradually pushing them out of the base, out of the courtyard and saving the base. Totally awesome, especially when both sides poplocked the continent and all were fighting over the one base.

Other Planetside ones include spec ops stuff, hacking and holding remote bases - a squad of 10 holding the cc against top resecure outfits and being a cloaker and sneaking into a enemy bases undetected and putting the hack on and causing havoc.

A more recent one was in LOTRO, was fighting an elite mob with a kinmate tank as a low level LM, the tank bit the dust, my pet was dead and I was low on morale. i stunned, dps'd, stunned and kited and eventually killed the boss - with my kin mate cheering me along. i had to calm down after that one.

I don't think this is my most intense moment ever, but I remember not long ago an L4D Insanity versus game with the OcUK lot the Tank chased after me at the bit where the float moves across in the Parish although I was black and white, and I took it on like a man. Was funny more than anything :p

And then I was killed by a charger at the safe room with 1hp left. :(

Intense moment in Age of Empires 3 where my friends and I +1bot were having a free for all, I was totally destroyed leaving very little left except whatever villagers I could save onto boats, and my explorer. My friends thought I was finished, along with the bot (Isabella, Spanish). Little did they know I just relocated to both where Isabella was, and somewhat nearby to one of my mates towns. My friends battled each other out at the end, one ended up being defeated, then there was a search out for my remaining units, and I only just lost out by a few units when I was found out! :D

Edit: Apparently it was the other way around, Apparently I won, rather than lost that battle.

I remember playing WoW TBC and doing Lady Vashj and Kael'thas encounters were epic and really difficult if you haven't been a part of some super skilled guild.

Trying and trying week after a week just so you could get that first kill, awesome memories :)

Final Fantasy 7 had loads for me. Fighting Emerald weapon under the water for 2+ hours had to be it though!

I have also done that multiple times because i can still go back and play FF7 and enjoy it as much as the first time.

Planetside - first ever hot-drop from a Galaxy onto the roof of an enemy base.

Being punched out of the gal just before the enemy AA blew it, seeing your squad drop around you, and then suddenly being in the middle of a massive firefight and trying desperately to hack the rooftop door before the enemy got up the stairs.

There had been nothing remotely like it before, and it was just jaw dropping.

Hasn't been anything remotely like it since either, unfortunately :(

I suppose, any time you go in to a PVP fight in eve online.

Nothing gets the heart beating faster :D

You beat me to this.

Mine was my first death as a new noob in low sec 0.4 space, where you are just able to fly a destroyer and you venture in 0.4 to rat the asteroid belts because they earned you some decent isk quickly. My destroyer got jumped and scrammed by 2 pirates in Rifters, one I managed to destroy but the 2nd killed me.
Instead of quickly warping away, they private convo-ed me, complimented my first kill (and loss), also complimented my lack of grief in local, repayed me for the loss and invited me into their corp. So not all pirates are bad!
But knowing that you are attacked by other human players and the consequences of your loss, add to the thrill of the game.
