potential ebay scam question

I sold a macbook on Ebay and the user has 0 feedback, but the account has been live since 2014. When I questioned the seller he claims its his brothers account and he has previously bought stuff on an old account.

I tried to cancel the sale with Ebay but the user declined stating the above reason for 0 feedback.

I have since received payment in full to my Paypal account which I have withdrawn to my bank and have shipped to the Ebay international shipping center place (he is in Italy).

But ... I still feel like this is a somehow a scam. Has anyone had a similar situation in the past and is there anything I should be on the look out for here? or am I just being paranoid?

Why not issue a refund after you received payment?

Sometimes I really do think some of the people who make these threads are just plain stupid.

You should have just sent him his money back and said you wont be selling to him, stuff what eBay say, I'd rather have my hand slapped by ebay than conned out of a 1500 quid MacBook!

If you're using their Global Shipping Programme, you'll be fine.

It offers even more protection than just Special Delivery or signed services.

You aren't responsible for item loss or damage that occurs after the item is forwarded by the UK Shipping Centre. Once an item has been forwarded by the UK Shipping Centre, you won't be responsible for refunding the buyer if an eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection case is filed against you for one of the following reasons:

A buyer claims an item isn't received or

A package is damaged in transit

Personally would not have sent it.

Any excuse (i.e whilst preparing to package it, you dropped it and killed it).. (sorry I changed my mind)...pretty much anything to avoid sending the item.

As someone else said. Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

I am expecting another thread soon entitled one of three things, I hope I am wrong :

1)Ebay buyer claim Macbook didnt arrive and wants refund

2)Ebay buyer claims Macbook is broken and wants a refund

3)Ebay buyer claims after 5 and a half months that his Macbook doesnt work and wants a refund.

Always, always, always set up buyer criteria.

"Anyone with 0 feedback is prohibited from bidding" is one that would prevent this :)

Lots of reply's telling me I am the fool I was afraid I am :(

Did you note down your mac s/n and have everything recorded?

Why not use the MM or another forum?

Yes I have a note of the SN and its recorded/signed for delivery to the global shipping center. It was listed on MM but there was no interest so just fired it on the bay.

I didn't realise until it was listed that I could set criteria, once it was listed I tried to change it but the only option was "buyers with less than -1 feedback"

I presumed that once I had the money in Paypal that I would have some sort of protection from Ebay/Paypal.

I used the global shipping program so hopefully that will help me out in the case of a claim!

I believe the general advice given in this situation is that you should get the money out of Paypal right away and into your bank account. Then remove any access that Paypal has to those accounts.

That way if they do decide to refund the buyer all they can do is put your Paypal account into debt, while you still have the physical money while you try and fight the case.

I have no practical experience of this, but it seems to be recommended around here a great deal.

You mean a bit like he said he did in the opening post?

Could be trying to scam you but I think you've done everything to cover your back.

Taken down Laptop details if he claims it arrived broken and tries to swap. Shipped through Ebay so they're responsible if he says damaged during shipping.

You'll be fine.
