Potential GPU issues

Hi folks,

Over the past couple of months I have had a few issues occur with my computer.

The first issue was red artifacts appearing on dark areas of the screen, this would happen occasionally and a restart of my computer would lead to them going away, at least temporarily.

Recently the red artifacts haven't been appearing however my gpu appears to be shutting off or losing power during gameplay (so far on only 1 game but i imagine an issue such as this cant be software related). My monitor will go into power saving mode and i'll again have to restart my computer. Having monitored temperatures the GPU appears to be hitting the high 90s under load.

I'm sure I'll have to replace the GPU as it appears to be the source of the problem however is there any chance it could also be a problem with the PSU?

I'm running a pretty old setup now consisting of a 580GTX, Corsair TX750 PSU, i5-2500K and MSI P67A-GD65 mobo.

Cheers in advance.

LOL yeah if the answer is when those components were installed new then I think we have our culprit!
