Hello,

I've installed Drive Health on my machine for a couple of weeks and has reported the drives as being in good health.

When I booted up today, it came up with a warning box saying "the nearest predicted T.E.C date for hard disk Maxtor 6Y160P0 is closer than 3 days!"

Upon further invetigation 'Ultra ATA CRC Error count' is highlighted red with a T.E.C date of 06/03/2006 and consequently the drive health meter is down to 1%.

I then ran PowerMax to do a few tests but apparently is fine.

I have also not experienced any loss in performance.

So, is Drive Health actually right or should I stop worrying? Do you use Drive Health and did it predict HDD failure for you?

I have backed up important stuff just in case.

thanks.

Ok, thank you for the reassurance, I'll trust PowerMax.
I'll try that speed fan for another opinion.

Thanks.

Edit: installed speedfan. Reports that fitness & performance are 97%

After a in depth report it tells me:

Ultra DMA CRC Error Rate 1 1998 Watch
Warning: Ultra DMA CRC Error Rate is below the average limits (80-199).

I'll just see what tomorrow brings when I power up.

Could be a bad cable or cable interferance? Tried a different cable?

Can't say I have tried another cable. It is set as a slave, so if the cable was to be faulty, would it not also affect the master?

It seems to be fine today, apart from a message keeps telling me that it could die any minute but I can always uninstall the program.
