Potential HDD problem and OcUK's return policy.

Hi guys (and girls),

Recently built my first gaming PC, buying most of the bits from here.

I got a 2TB Samsung F4 HD204UI (the EcoGreen one on daily special at the minute) for my storage needs, and all was well for the first few weeks, but over the last couple of weeks every time I start my PC it's making a ticking noise, however the HDD operates as normal even while this is happening. I stopped the fans one-by-one before assuming it must be the HDD.

I did some Google searches and it could be the sign of a dying HDD, however a friend of mine suggests it could be normal as they make all kinds of funny noises when there's nothing wrong, however I've never had any problems with any other HDD and the noise is very similar to the various sound clips I found of bad sectors and, I think, what they call head crash?

My two-part question is; is this a problem or am I being paranoid, and if it is a dying drive, what is OcUK's returns policy on this? Does the drive actually need to be dead? Doing a back up would mean buying another drive as I simply don't have the space to back-up lying around.

I'm running Windows 7 64 Ultimate.

Thanks. I appreciate any and all replies.

:)

Edit: Just noticed something on one of the reviews for this drive on OcUK: "makes a very strange noise when you first start it but after that it's perfectly silent"

Sounds like the same thing. Is it possible we both got bad drives? I found no mention of this noise when I was doing research into which one to get.
