Hi guys, I need a few opinions..

I currently have a 62 plate Astra SRi on finance, which will be paid off within the next month..

I am possibly looking to sell this privately to make the most out of it and buy a cheaper, similarly reliable car and have some change to pump into a house i'm moving into at the end of this month.

I'm looking at a similar spec to the astra:-
- 2 litre turbo diesel
- 50+ mpg
- Nice interior
- Comfy to drive
- Cruise control

Now I've been looking at Mk2 Focuses, as they come around with relatively low mileage quite cheap these days, anywhere between £3500-£6000 for a half decent one...

There are some out there with a few more toys than the Astra that would be coming in handy:-
- Heated windscreen
- Heated leather interior

Have a touch of the modding bug, so this will be a requirement at some point, nothing too crazy but looking for something that is a bit easier to work with as the Astra's are so fiddly and flimsy, something will just break if you pull it a bit too hard... When you're trying to pull some 0 gauge power cable through the rubber grommet at the rear of the engine bay, it does get a little difficult, plus trying to get interior trim off is a bleedin' nightmare... So want something a bit easier to pull apart haha.

Fire away....

2 questions you ware going to be asked by forum guys

1. How many miles do you do a year?
2. Why do you want a turbo diesel?

:)

1. A good 15k, work 5 days a week, sometimes overtime, going out etc it soon racks up
2. Always had turbo diesels, not a fan of petrols, you seem to fill them up every couple of days, well I would anyway (having petrol for past experiences)

Ill be the first to say....

Mondeo Titanium X with what ever tractor engine you desire (except the 1.8 as it is a bit unresponsive)

Focus will be a cheaper purchase and will likely squeeze a few more MPG's out. But the Mondeo is better in everything else.

A big car will come in very handy with having a new house. Especially if you have a family or planning on having one.

True that... I will consider that definitely, the boot will be used for audio build haha, 1 child in tow but hardly goes in the car or will very rarely need to..

To be completely honest with you, the Mondeo ST 155 ticks pretty much every box, heated windscreen do we know at all?

Yeah, the MK3 will, but tbh at that price you might be able to get into a MK4. If you're looking at a MK3, I would advise against a spec with 18" wheels, as the ride is crashy at best.

It comes with 18" wheels as standard doesn't it? I'd be swapping to a different style more than likely anyway, it's not a bad car, ticks my boxes, I hear there are a few problems like injectors, rear bumper issues and bubbling wheels?

Any more suggestions? I'm open to ideas :)
