Potential PC build

Unless you get the i7 you may be better off on an amd. The fx is very strong in modern games and has started pulling ahead of i5s this year.

Obviously the i7 is faster and Intel win in older games - but older games are unlikely to run slow anyway...

What games do you want to play?

What else will you use the rig for?

Z87 is unlikely to be compatible with broadwell, so neither platform will provide upgradeability.

Yeah, I might be, and there is no denying that AMD has better price vs performance than Intel. The 4670k is a surprising exception, then again, it's not like Intel cannot afford to sell stuff at actual fair prices.

With a new rig I would play things like Battlefield 4, Path of Exile, TimeSplitters Rewind, Guild Wars 2, DayZ, that Naruto game that just got ported, and various other things that slip my mind right now.

Well, I am not sure yet, but I will definitely want to do some live Let's Plays using Evolve. Possibly with an external encoder, but I find Evolve's own one passable so far.

Yeah, I thought that too. Intel just loooove changing sockets, and AM3 is old now, not to mention that it's all about APUs now. So whichever way I go, I am likely stuck with the CPU I choose for the lifespan of the rest of the system.

I think an FX-8350 would be enough, but features such as QuickSync would be useful, as arguably would better single thread performance. While not necessary, they would be nice to have, but money and morals. XD
