Ok i would like to get a SSD for my OS and a few choice games. Going to get a 80-120 GB SSD in the future. Is there anyway I can clone/copy my OS from my 1gb hdd to the SDD so i dont have to reformat and start again? I have a nice steam game colection and various saves and updates on this hdd so it has been putting me off this upgrade for a while! Any help/recommendations would be most appreciated.

Theres a number of ways to clone an OS HDD to a new drive including norton ghost, acronis true image, seagate discwizard and others... but you do need to do some careful research and reading up on it before you attempt it - deffinatly want a backup of any important files.

If your just worried about steam, then the game files can just be copied with the steam folder - re-running steam at the new location will cause it to repair itself with no or minimal downloading... saved games, config files, etc. are another matter some are in the steam folder, some in my documents, some hidden away under appdata :( and in some cases even under program files or just random folders in c:

Ok thanks for the advice. It looks like it may just be easier to go for a clean instal. The problem i have with that is that i have an upgrade version of windows 7. Does that mean i'll have to install vista and then install windows 7 upgrade!?
