Potential upgrade advise

I've got an antec kuhler h2o 620 for cooling already. But if it doesn't work out for the time being I could use the stock cooler till I get something better. Also the warranty is much longer which is definitely worth that little extra you pay. Plus I like the box!

Awesome. Just like talking through the options as other people read the threads too so they can learn. You've not long missed a great deal on the OEM i5K for £160 but yes I can see why you might want the longer warranty, helps if you sell it on for sure.

Height of RAM isn't an issue then either with that cooler, happy days......It's looking good :D

BTW how do you paste the basket like that?

It's Black Magic ;)

The Kuhler 620 will work, it should cope with a 3770K to around 4.5-4.6Ghz from my experiences.

I am aiming for BEAST MODE as my friends would call it.

Yeah nice solid foundation, colour coded too. I do appreciate styling in a build :)

Is the Patriot ram pretty good especially for ocing. I chose it start off with as it was part of one of the ocuk overclocked bundles.

I would have put the 16GB Black Mamba in the basket, which would help upgrade the HDD to 3TB. It's OOS but at that price it's easy to see why. RAM has a limited lifetime warranty so there is always the argument to get the fastest you can afford. You could get THIS for less than the Patriot you have used, plenty of options to choose from to suit your needs/style

Maybe ask 8Pack, but he would say just get faster RAM in the first place most likely (I have seen him say this actually).

One review I read said the Black Mamba wasn't great for ocing. So what would be your reasons for putting it in?

I am going for colour matching lol. I never used I just chucked in what I could afford. But the wife has let me off the leash a little and I am going a little crazy, love the look on her face when I say how much my potential builds cost.

You should also note that the IMC (integrated memory controller) built into the actual CPU is also important, some can go over 2400MHz, some can only manage say 2133MHz.

My current 3570K doesn't have a problem doing 2400MHz and thats just with a simple XMP profile (the board reads the data contained on the RAM sticks and sets the frequency +timings+Voltage up for you) being enabled within the BIOS.

Would you recommend either of those over the Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB 2133MHz.

Never tried the Patriot Intel Extreme masters.

I've tried other kits such as Corsair Dominator RAM (rubbish overclocking, rubbish price too from what I can remember) and Kingston HyperX Grey (does the job, they use to be sold really cheap too).

I've stuck GSkill Ripjaws X 2133Mhz in a friends Llano build and that was good stuff, it did 2400Mhz without issue.

I take you oc your setup, if so do you find it easy with that memory.

I run the RAM with the fastest XMP profile set, which for the Kingston HyperX beast 2400, has one profile for 2133Mhz and another for 2400Mhz (slightly different timings) and leave it.

Painless really.

But I currently have the GSkill ARES fitted as I have a huge air cooler currently fitted (normally use a H100i)
