Potentially upgrading

Hi,

Keen to understand about the compatability of the RAM. I think I'll get a new case as it'll be for my Son and he wants shiney lights but I can hide them away in the meaintime.

The RX580 was a recomendation based on my old Mobo. Is it still a decent budget choice based on a B450 mobo?

Looks like I'm settling on this unless I've missed something obvious.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £674.15 (includes shipping: £13.20)

The already have the GPU and will speak with OCUK to ensure I can hold on to it before returning it to ensure it fits and the issue is not with the GPU itself.

I have teh 550PSU as suggest by Grimley.

Will this lot work together?

In terms of future proofing it. Will the B450 take a 3070 or 6800 if I stick with this next year?

Thanks. Thats what I thought.

This'll be passed on to my son and I think it'll be a while before we spend that kinda money on him but wanted to be sure on the Mobo. It's the main thing holding me back now.

Cheers

morning all.

A quick question. I'm looking at various monitors over the next couple of days with a view to purchasing one for myself as a christmas present.

In current times do I need to be worried about AMD vs NVidia compatability anymore? Most/All seem to be able to do both.

I'm asking as I do not know which GPU construct I'll purchase next year... AMD or NVidia and want to have options that are not restricted based on my GPU.

Thoughts?

Hi all,
Glad to help.
Grimley (or anyone else that can help)

Sorry to quote you in an old thread of mine but I'm keen to get some further assistance on this matter.

Further to the history of the thread...... very old machine, limited upgradeability..... purchased upgrade... it didnt 'fit' in the machine.

I've now just (finally) built my own new machine and gave my previous one to my Son. Within days it's gone caput and I've backworked it to the GPU (ironically).

Everything else is working. Thus I have two questions:

1. I assume it's unusual that a GPU doesn't fit. It wasn't the length but more the rearside and it not fitting into the slot correctly. Assuming that is the case, (and excuse the unintended pun), if I purchase a new cheap (or 2nd hand case) for my Son, is it reasonable to expect a new GPU to fit?
2. I can't seem to find the same graphics card anymore. What was £150 at the time seems to be £350 now at OCUK which is almost as much as my 3060ti. Is there something else I can order from OCUK (or somewhere else) that would work with my mobo and cpu?

I did see this on an A2Z website

Thanks in advance.

OK
1. A GPU of that age Should (& I do mean should) fit in a Standard ATX case. unless your old PC case is an OEM from HP or Dell then that card may not fit.
2. RX580's are over 5 years old now, they were good VFM at the time but things have moved on. AMD RX6500 is what you'll be able to buy for around the £200 mark new, but I wouldnt expect a huge leap in performance as RX6500 GPU's are 'held back' so to speak. Up your budget a bit more & RX6600 will be better. 2nd hand is a lottery, as a lot of 2nd hand GPU's for sale may have been used in cryptocurrency mining (24/7 use at full chat for months/years) so it may be best to avoid or be careful who you buy from.
Thanks Grimley,

I just wasn't sure why the last one didnt fit. There was tons of space around it, it just didn't sit deep enough into the PCI slot. The case is an old LanLi
