Raised/sunken ironworks can be just as bad. Round our way some of the roads have huge holes in them where the manholes are. On the Atherleigh bypass you pretty much have to drive with one wheel in the cycle path or one wheel in the other carriageway to avoid bouncing in and out of a huge hole every 100 yards.

nor here, and after a year, the new surface has totally worn back to the the old surface. What a waste of time.
