powder coat

i find prices between powder coaters very hugely depending on all sorts of factors.

eg:
how busy they are
what colour/s you want
how quick you want it done
the quality of equipment/materials
wether any preparation needs doing

its easiest to ring a good few from the yellow pages and get quotes. they will be in close competition anyway. if your lucky you might for example be wanting black and theyve got a batch of black car wheels to do the next weekend so can offer cheaper rates if you wait till then. things like that

i usually get bike frames done for £30 - 40 and that includes shot blasting the old paint off , the powder coating and then a laquer coat too... have had motobike wheels done for 25 notes before

100+ seems very pricey even though admittedly its a big surface area.

another cheeky thing to do would be to hint at repeat buisness when your getting quotes.

That seems like a really good price... My mate got all of his motorbike panels resprayed thorugh a friend of a friend a couple of days for £180... Is that exstortionate?

Also by Bike frame you mean a push bike frame right? Have been thinking of getting this done

was about to post a thread asking if anyone knows good shot blasters/powder coaters in the belfast area?

seems to be good prices quoted above, will definetly ring around

I got a complete thermaltake mozart case done for £30.

I stripped it down and made sure it was down to metal only parts of course.

This was at a local place, he had not done a pc case before and was happy to have a go and see how it came out. The results were 10X better than any canned paint job i could have done.

mine is a brand new Lian A17...........bare Ally..............but if i was going to powdercoat it, i'd need to rub out the textured brushmarked Ally finish :eek:

it's only an idea, because it seems crazy to powdercoat a brand new case that already looks excellent, i was just wondering that's all.

better to powdercoat it in 3 years time, when it's all scratched up.

hang around, is that a bit of grey carpet in your pc base panel :D

carpet is actually a very good sound insulator

i know what powdercoating is :) but thankyou anyway i mean if its cheaper for a respray why not get it resprayed its not like u will be taking a screwdriver to the side is it ?

Got the insides of my A77 powder coated (Black) for £70.

The specialist PC shops basically double the actual cost just for sending your system off to the local specialist. My local chap in Suffolk charges £10 to drill out all the rivets and put the case back together and then £20 to do the powdercoating (and that's inside and out, any colour combination you want).

Very, very, few decent cases are spray-painted from new. Mostly, they are anodized and brushed or polished. It's harder to get a decent finish with spray paint and if the powder coating is done well, you can even screw things into the hard drive bays etc. and it doesn't mark the powder coat.
