Anyone had a problem with this sound card failing to initialize after restarting the computer? Starts up normally every time with a cold boot, though. Doesn't seem likely to be fixed with drivers because it disappears from Device Manager altogether. Perhaps only a firmware update will fix it, or if it's a motherboard incompatibility, a BIOS update (which isn't going to happen with my Maximus Formula VI).

I've had this a few times as well. You have to turn the PC off and back on again not just a simple restart. Like you say though could be numerous reasons for it.

I'm fairly convinced now that I've seen other people have the issue, it's either a hardware problem with the sound card itself that cannot be fixed or a firmware update will need to be applied (and I'm not sure if the end user is able to upgrade the firmware). I'm going to contact Powercolor support on this matter, and if nothing is done, I'll be out of the sound card market entirely, and my next purchase will be a DAC & amp.

First ASUS leaves us out in the cold with the STX, claiming that the screeching noise problem that half its users have is not the fault of the card, or that Windows has an audio stack issue that can cause screeching with any card (blatantly false), now this is the final straw with internal sound cards for me.

Well well .... after updating my Nvida Drivers yesterday this sound card's drivers decided to uninstall themselves , and it's not the first time the card has uninstalled itself, never had this issue with other cards I have used

Are you sure it wasn't the card failing to start up properly when you restarted after installing display drivers, and thus no sound drivers or Audio Center were loaded? If so, it should start normally after a cold reboot.

Yes I think you're right ..So far I have avoided restarts in favor of shutting down my PC then booting it up again and so far so good :)

I received my card yesterday, installed fresh on a nice clean WIN 10 install with the latest drivers. I am connecting to my Onkyo amp via toslink. Now, now matter what I try the card will not output on Toslink. I have a D2X here (borrowed) and it works fine but this card, nothing. This morning I had the chance to try it on a friends Rig, similar spec to mine, Asus Pro Gamer on board sound off, toslink to an amp, nothing. Not even a red light from the cable (which both onboard and the D2X have). I have tried every available setting but I just can't get sound. Now I have tried headphones and the sound works fine. Is this a Windows 10 problem?? I do not have a Win 7 or 8 rig to test on. Surely though, as win any other brand, you connect it up, select the correct output and hey presto, sound. I feel I might have to RMA as faulty

Seem to remember it needs to be selected in the app to play it through toslink.
Don't recall as don't use mine. keep meaning to put it on MM. Have an amp too and use the hdmi output as that can do 5.1 aswell.

I have selected spdif in the app itself but still nothing. I have been trying all evening, now tried it on a 3rd rig and still nothing. The analogues are fine, just absolutely nothing from the Toslink. I think RMA is the only option now, even though OCUK are out of stock now. I must have had the last one.

My amp auto switches as soon as it picks up a Toslink signal, it works with on board, the D2X and now tested it with a Creative Z. Also, they all push the red light through the toslink whereas this card does nothing sadly.
